April 25th, 7:00 p.m. ET - Ornamentum Lecture: Biting Towards Our Future with Diane Blunt

Many have not heard of the ancient and rare art form of birch bark biting with its rich history rooted in the Indigenous cultures of North America including the Ojibway, Chippewa, and Cree. For this presentation, Diane will share her birch bark biting processes, her work, and her hopes to keep this art form alive well into the future.

May 5th, 3:00 p.m. ET - CSDA Sundays: Expert Series - Tea, Art, and Culture: The Design Evolution of Japanese Tea Ceramics of the Late Edo Period
The tea ceremony was the central cultural sphere of Japan’s Edo period (1615– 1868), in which social, political, and artistic ties were formed. Join Harry Schely and Anthony Wu to learn about the ceramics, utensils, and decorative arts created for the tea ceremony which is one of the most significant categories in Japan’s artistic canon.  


SAVE THE DATE: SPECIAL IN-PERSON CSDA/CCAD MEMBER EVENT - (NOTE: REVISED DATE) JUNE 22, 2024 - TOUR OF CANADIAN CANOE MUSEUM 

The CSDA will host a day-long visit to the new Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough, Ontario.  The museum is re-opening in May in a state-of-the-art building in a new waterfront location. It holds the largest collection of paddle-propelled watercraft in the world, along with studios showcasing traditional crafts such as beading, fabric arts, millwork, snowshoe- and paddle-making, and, of course, canoe-building.  In addition to touring the exhibits, CSDA members will be granted access to a spectacular storage area housing the entire collection of watercraft, guided by the curator.
