_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ CSDA/CCAD SUNDAYS - MAKER SERIES: JUSTIN MING YONG, QUILTMAKING |
Sunday, April 5, 2024 - 3 p.m. EST Justin Ming Yong credits the start of his quilting journey to a fortuitous trip to an antiques market, where he found himself flipping through a book on quilting. However, the seed may have been planted well before that, as his mother is an experienced quilter. Armed with a hand-me-down sewing machine and crash course from Mom on basic stitching techniques, Yong quickly made this traditional art form his own. His preference for a patchwork style centred around big, bold geometric shapes has garnered him high praise from media and collectors alike, as an innovative Canadian maker who is transforming and disrupting the medium. Join us for a colourful look at Yong’s quiltmaking practice as he shares his unconventional, modern approach to this otherwise classically folk art discipline.
