Coming from an extended family of Kwagu’ł wood carvers, Calvin Hunt’s work has received international acclaim and is much sought after for public commissions and by private collectors. In this presentation, Calvin will take us on a journey through his 55-year career, tracing the cultural roots and spiritual values that inform his art, and he will describe the process of creating two unique masterpieces, from start to finish. Hunt Chief Tłasutiwalis - Nas’a̱m’yus One of the prominent Northwest Coast artists of the Kwakwaka’wakw, Calvin A. Hunt has 55 years of carving experience. Known for his expertise in a wide range of carving, he has produced works of monumental fine art in totem poles, canoe building, dance costumes, masks, jewelry, bronze and stone carving, and silk-screened prints. Recognized by collectors around the world gives him the distinction of an internationally acclaimed Kwagu’ł artist with integrity and commitment to his artistry and culture. |
